Your Role (Responsibilities)
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will:
- Deliver tailored 1:1 and small group support to pupils with complex needs (ASD, PMLD, SLD).
- Support the class teacher by adapting learning materials to make the curriculum accessible.
- Implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and contribute to student progress tracking.
- Foster a positive and safe learning space, managing challenging behaviour calmly and effectively.
- Support pupils' social, emotional, and communication development.
- Assist pupils with personal care needs (e.g., feeding, toileting, mobility) with dignity.
- Prepare classroom resources for lessons and activities.
- Liaise with a multi-disciplinary team (therapists, teachers) to ensure holistic support.
- Uphold all safeguarding and child protection policies.
What You Bring (Requirements)
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- A minimum of 6 months' recent UK experience as an SEN Teaching Assistant (or similar) working with children with complex needs (ASD, PMLD, SLD).
- Experience working within an SEN school or specialist provision.
- Confidence and professional experience in providing personal care.
- A patient, empathetic, and resilient approach to supporting pupils.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team.
- A Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent) is highly desirable.
- Team Teach or similar de-escalation/positive handling training is desirable.
- An enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for one).
- The right to work in the UK.
