About the Role
Are you an experienced SEN professional who thrives in non-traditional educational settings?
Randstad Education is currently recruiting for a resilient and adaptive SEN Teaching Assistant to support an Alternative Provision in Plymouth. This setting caters to vulnerable young people who require an individualised approach to education outside of mainstream schooling.
Due to the nature of the provision, which includes off-site learning and community integration, holding a full UK driving license is an essential requirement for this position.
Key Responsibilities:
Behaviour Management: Safely manage and de-escalate challenging behaviour using positive reinforcement and trauma-informed approaches.
1:1 Support: Deliver tailored academic and emotional support to pupils with complex SEN, SEMH, and EHCPs (Education, Health and Care Plans).
Community Access: Utilise your driving license to support students during off-site educational activities and community-based learning.
Engagement: Re-engage students who have faced barriers to learning, building trust and mutual respect.
Candidate Requirements (Essential):
Experience: Minimum of 6-12 months of verifiable experience working with children or young adults displaying challenging behaviour (e.g., in a PRU, Alternative Provision, SEMH school, or Youth Work environment).
Mobility: A valid, full UK Driving License is compulsory to meet the requirements of the school's curriculum.
Characteristics: High emotional intelligence, physical and mental resilience, and a calm under-pressure demeanour.
Availability: Able to commit to the standard school day of 08:30 to 15:30.
Why Choose This Position?
Flexibility: Choose between regular day-to-day supply or stable, long-term placements.
Impact: Work in an environment where your presence directly dictates a child's success and safety.
