Are you a compassionate and dedicated individual looking to make a real impact in the lives of students with Special Educational Needs?
Do you have the resilience to support learners through their challenges and the empathy to celebrate their every success?
Whether you are an experienced SEN specialist or a graduate in Psychology or Education looking to gain hands-on experience, we want to hear from you.
We are seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join our partner schools in Chelmsford. This role involves working within a supportive environment-either in a mainstream secondary SEN department or a dedicated specialist school-supporting students with a variety of needs, including Autism (ASD), ADHD, Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
Your Responsibilities
- 1:1 & Small Group Support: Provide tailored academic and emotional support to students, helping them access the curriculum at a pace that works for them.
- EHCP Implementation: Work closely with the SENCO to deliver the specific goals outlined in a student's Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP).
- Inclusion Advocacy: Act as a bridge between the student and the wider classroom, ensuring they feel included and supported during all school activities.
- Behavioural Coaching: Use positive reinforcement and de-escalation techniques to help students manage their emotions and stay engaged with their learning.
- Progress Tracking: Observe and record student development, providing valuable feedback to teachers and parents to ensure a consistent approach to their care.
- Resource Adaptation: Help modify learning materials (such as using visual aids or simplified instructions) to suit the individual needs of the learner.
What You'll Bring to the Team
- The Right Attitude: You must be incredibly patient, non-judgmental, and possess a genuine passion for SEN.
- Resilience: The ability to remain calm and professional in situations that may be emotionally or behaviourally challenging.
- Experience (Preferred): Prior experience working with SEN (in schools, care settings, or personal life) is highly valued, but we also welcome applicants with a strong desire to learn.
- Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills to build trust with students who may find communication difficult.
- Compliance: An enhanced Child & Adult DBS on the Update Service (or a willingness to process a new one via Randstad).
