Are you a compassionate and proactive individual ready to join a "wonderful" specialist team in the home of horseracing?
Do you have the resilience and heart to support students with complex needs in a setting that truly celebrates every milestone?
Are you seeking an immediate start in a Newmarket SEN school that priorities student-centred success and staff collaboration?
We are seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant for an immediate start at a highly-regarded specialist school near Diss. This is a rare opportunity to join a school community known for its "wonderful" atmosphere-a place where staff are supported and students are given the tools to thrive despite their challenges. Whether you are an experienced SEN professional or a dedicated individual from a care, sports, or coaching background looking to transition into education, this role offers the chance to make a profound impact from day one.
Your Responsibilities
- Bespoke Learning Support: Work 1:1 and in small groups to deliver tailored sensory and academic activities for students with Autism (ASD), ADHD, and Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD).
- Positive Behaviour Advocacy: Implement personalised behaviour plans with a calm, patient, and low-arousal approach, helping students navigate their emotions safely.
- Communication Mastery: Utilise specialist tools like PECS, Makaton, and visual timetables to empower non-verbal and semi-verbal learners to express themselves.
- Holistic Care: Assist with the physical, social, and emotional wellbeing of students, ensuring they feel secure and valued throughout the school day.
- Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Work closely with the class teacher and external therapists (Speech & Language, OT) to meet the objectives outlined in each student's EHCP.
- Milestone Tracking: Observe and record small but significant wins, providing feedback to parents and school leadership on student progress.
What You'll Bring to the Team
- The Right Mindset: You don't necessarily need years of school experience, but you must have a "can-do" attitude, immense patience, and a genuine passion for SEN.
- Resilience: The ability to stay grounded and supportive during challenging moments, providing a consistent presence for vulnerable learners.
- Transferable Skills: Backgrounds in care, youth work, sports coaching, or psychology are highly valued in this specialist setting.
- Commitment: Because these students rely on routine and trust, we are looking for someone reliable who can commit to a full-time schedule.
- Compliance: An enhanced Child & Adult DBS on the Update Service (or a willingness to process a new one via Randstad).
