Responsibilities:
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you're the one who makes a real connection with these amazing young people. Here's a bit of what your day might look like:
- Providing that crucial one-to-one or small group support, tailoring it to each child's unique needs, whether they have SLD, PMLD, ASD, or medical requirements. Students ages 11-16+
- Helping with personal care - things like toileting, feeding, and mobility - always with respect and dignity, because that's paramount.
- Putting IEPs into action and helping track those fantastic milestones children make.
- Using your Team Teach qualification to create a positive, safe environment and manage any tricky situations calmly and effectively.
- Working closely with teachers, therapists, and other professionals. It's all about teamwork to ensure every child receives the best support.
- Creating a fun, safe, and stimulating space where kids can explore and communicate in their own way.
- Adapting activities and materials so they work for all sensory and cognitive needs.
- Keeping tabs on progress and sharing those wins in meetings.
- Helping students build their independence and boost their communication skills.
Requirements:
- Has at least 3 months UK experience as an SEN Teaching Assistant, specifically with complex learning difficulties.
- Holds a current and essential Team Teach qualification or is willing to attend a course.
- Is comfortable and experienced with personal care for young people with complex needs.
- Understands the importance of safeguarding and keeping children safe.
- Has plenty of patience, empathy, and resilience.
- Communicates clearly and openly, both when chatting with kids and writing notes for the team.
- Is proactive, adaptable and wants to contribute to a positive school atmosphere.
- Has the right to work in the UK and can provide good professional references.
- An enhanced children and adults DBS on the update service (or willingness to obtain one)
