We are seeking a compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join a supportive secondary school environment in Plymouth. What you will be doingIn this role, you will play a pivotal part in the educational and personal journey of pupils in Key Stage 3 and 4 who face barriers to learning. You will help transform lives by:
- Providing tailored 1:1 and small group support to students with SEMH needs.
- Utilising de-escalation strategies and trauma-informed approaches to create a safe, structured, and calm learning environment.
- Acting as a positive role model, building trusting relationships that empower students to navigate emotional challenges.
- Collaborating with classroom teachers to adapt lessons that align with individual EHCP goals.
- Monitoring progress and well-being, sharing key insights with the SENCO to ensure every student is supported effectively.
You are a calm, professional, and emotionally literate individual who thrives in a school setting. You possess a strong desire to see every student reach their full potential, regardless of the challenges they face.
- You hold an Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service.
- You have proven experience working with young people with SEMH, challenging behaviour, or complex needs.
- You communicate with clarity, patience, and effective boundary-setting skills.
- You have a Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant qualification or relevant degree/training (e.g., Team Teach, MAPA) is highly desirable.
- You are based in or easily accessible to Plymouth and available for a full-time, long-term commitment.
- A rewarding long-term contract in a warm, inclusive, and collaborative secondary school.
- Full-time hours: Monday - Friday, 8:30 AM - 3:30 PM (term-time only).
- Competitive pay rate: £92.56-95 per day.
