The Opportunity:
Are you an experienced and skilled Social Worker with a passion for frontline safeguarding? We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Social Worker to join our fast-paced Duty & Assessment Team. This is a pivotal role where you will manage complex referrals, mentor junior staff, and make crucial decisions that ensure the safety and well-being of children in Birmingham.
Key Responsibilities:
As a Senior Social Worker in the Duty & Assessment Team, you will:
Manage a complex and varied caseload of referrals and undertake comprehensive single and multi-agency assessments.
Conduct Section 47 child protection enquiries and initial child protection conferences.
Provide expert advice and support to less experienced social workers and students, acting as a mentor and role model.
Make robust, timely, and analytical decisions regarding risk and the need for statutory intervention.
Collaborate effectively with a wide range of professionals in the Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH), police, health, and education.
Prepare clear and concise reports for a variety of forums, including strategy meetings and Initial Child Protection Conferences.
Maintain accurate, up-to-date, and high-quality case records on our electronic system.
What We Are Looking For:
A qualified Social Worker with current registration with Social Work England.
Significant post-qualifying experience in children's social work, with a proven track record in a Duty, Assessment, or MASH team.
Expert knowledge of relevant child protection legislation and statutory guidance, including Working Together to Safeguard Children.
Exceptional assessment, analytical, and risk management skills, with the ability to make sound decisions under pressure.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of engaging effectively with children, families, and professionals.
Experience in mentoring or providing guidance to colleagues.
A valid UK driving license and access to a vehicle for work purposes across the city.
