We are currently partnering with a highly regarded specialist SEN school in Cambridge to recruit a dedicated, passionate, and experienced Specialist Dyslexia Teacher on a full-time, permanent basis.
In this specialist teaching role, you will design and deliver targeted multi-sensory literacy interventions, conduct diagnostic screenings, and empower pupils with Dyslexia and specific learning difficulties (SpLD) to build literacy confidence, working memory strategies, and academic independence. Working alongside a dedicated SENCO and multidisciplinary team, you will ensure that every child's individual Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) targets are met with precision and empathy.
Key Responsibilities:

- Assessment & Tracking: Conduct informal and formal diagnostic literacy assessments, monitor reading and writing age progress, and maintain detailed progress records to inform EHCP annual reviews.
- Curriculum Adaptation: Collaborate with subject teachers and teaching assistants to adapt classroom resources, carrier language, and learning materials across the wider curriculum.
- Assistive Technology: Champion the use of digital assistive technology (such as text-to-speech, speech-to-text, and screen-overlay software) to promote pupil independence.
- Staff Training & Mentoring: Share specialist SpLD strategies with classroom staff, offering guidance on dyslexia-friendly classroom practices and environmental adjustments.
- Parent & Specialist Liaison: Build strong, transparent relationships with parents, carers, and external educational psychologists to support holistic child development.
Candidate Criteria & Requirements:
- Qualifications:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or QTLS.
- Level 5 (or Level 7) Diploma / Specialist Qualification in Teaching Learners with Specific Learning Difficulties / Dyslexia (e.g., BDA Level 5 Approved Course, OCR Level 5, or equivalent).
- Experience: Proven experience delivering specialist SpLD and dyslexia interventions within a mainstream, SEN provision, or specialist school environment.
- Deep knowledge of multi-sensory teaching methods (e.g., Orton-Gillingham, Alpha to Omega, or similar structured frameworks).
- Excellent communication, reporting, and interpersonal skills, with a patient, pupil-centred approach.
- A valid Enhanced DBS check registered on the Update Service (or willingness to complete one).
What The School Offers:
- Permanent Security: A stable, contracted full-time position offering long-term career fulfilment within a specialist setting.
- Competitive Teacher Pay: Pay scale reflective of your QTS, Level 5 SpLD status, and specialist SEN background (including SEN allowance).
- Professional Development: Opportunities to pursue further SpLD qualifications (including Level 7 Assessment Practising Certificates) and ongoing CPD.
