Randstad Education is currently seeking enthusiastic and dedicated Key Stage 1 (KS1) Teaching Assistants to join our supply team in Leeds. If you have a strong background in early literacy and practical experience using phonics, this flexible role offers a fantastic opportunity to work across a variety of brilliant local primary schools.
The Role
As a supply KS1 Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting children during a crucial phase of their education. You will work closely with class teachers to deliver engaging lessons, manage classroom dynamics, and ensure pupils feel supported and motivated.
Key Responsibilities:
Phonics Delivery: Lead small group sessions and 1:1 interventions using recognised phonics schemes to improve reading and blending skills.
KS1 Support: Assist pupils in Year 1 and Year 2 with core subjects, helping them transition smoothly through the Key Stage 1 curriculum.
Classroom Management: Help prepare learning materials, set up resources, and maintain a safe, positive, and focused learning environment.
Differentiated Learning: Support children of all abilities, including those with additional learning needs (SEN), adapting your approach to fit their pace.
Requirements
To be successful in this role, you must meet the following criteria:
UK Experience: You must have UK experience working within a primary school classroom setting.
Phonics Knowledge: Practical, hands-on experience using phonics frameworks (such as Read Write Inc. or Letters and Sounds).
Adaptability: A flexible, positive attitude and the ability to fit quickly into new school teams.
Compliance: A current enhanced DBS check on the Update Service, or a willingness to apply for a new one.
