Hemel Hempstead
Are you an empathetic and vigilant support professional with a background in healthcare or advanced medical first aid?
Can you seamlessly bridge the gap between dedicated classroom learning support and the essential physical or medical care a child needs to thrive?
If you are looking for a full-time, long-term role starting this upcoming academic year where your specialised medical background can truly make a school inclusive, we want to hear from you.
We are seeking a highly skilled, reliable, and compassionate Teaching Assistant with prior medical, healthcare, or specialist care experience to join our partner Primary School based in Hemel Hempstead for a long-term contract starting in September 2026. This rewarding role is designed for a professional who will provide dedicated academic support in the classroom while confidently managing the daily medical, physical, or dietary needs of specific pupils (which may include diabetes management, epilepsy protocols, allergy monitoring, or mobility support).
Your Responsibilities
- Holistic Classroom Support: Assist the class teacher in delivering differentiated learning activities, ensuring the targeted pupil remains fully engaged and included in all school initiatives.
- Medical & Care Management: Confidently administer or monitor prescribed medical routines, check equipment (such as blood glucose monitors or inhalers), and implement specific care plans with absolute accuracy.
- Sensory & Physical Welfare: Direct, inspire, and manage the student's daily comfort, assisting with sensory breaks, physical mobility support, or fine motor skill exercises where required.
- Vigilant Progress Tracking: Monitor both academic milestones and physical well-being, keeping meticulous, private notes to ensure a coordinated, safe, and positive approach to daily school life.
- Multidisciplinary Liaison: Collaborate regularly with the school's Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo), visiting community nurses, and occupational therapists to uphold the highest standards of care.
- Reassuring Parental Partnerships: Maintain sensitive, transparent, and encouraging communication with parents and carers, establishing a deeply trusted network of daily support.
What You'll Bring to the Team
- Prior Medical / Healthcare Experience: Mandatory. Past experience working as a Healthcare Assistant (HCA), Care Worker, Paediatric First Aider, Nurse, or a SEN Teaching Assistant managing high-level medical conditions.
- Pedagogical Adaptability: A compassionate, nurturing demeanour with a strong interest in primary education and the capability to break down simple learning tasks for young minds.
- Calm Under Pressure: High emotional resilience and a grounded presence, with the ability to respond swiftly, logically, and confidently during medical emergencies or periods of pupil distress.
- Reliability and Schedule: Total availability to commit to a full-time, Monday to Friday schedule across the full 2026/2027 academic year.
- Compliance: An enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service (or a willingness to process a new one directly through Randstad).
