Are you an experienced SEN Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA), a specialist cover supervisor, or a graduate with an extensive background in care or psychology?
Do you possess the confidence, subject knowledge, and leadership skills to step up and lead a classroom, but don't yet hold QTS?
If you are looking for a full-time role that recognises your specialist expertise and offers a direct pathway toward a teaching career, we want to hear from you.
We are seeking a dedicated and resourceful Unqualified SEN Teacher for a full-time position within a wonderful SEN School. This role is tailor-made for an educational professional who has mastered classroom management and behaviour de-escalation, and is ready to take on the rewarding responsibility of planning and delivering adaptive lessons. You will be fully supported by the school's SENCO and a team of experienced lead teachers, allowing you to hone your pedagogical skills while making a profound difference in the lives of pupils with complex needs.
Your Responsibilities
- Adaptive Lesson Delivery: Deliver pre-planned or collaborative lessons tailored to the specific learning paces and sensory profiles of pupils with complex needs, including Autism (ASD), ADHD, and MLD.
- Classroom Leadership: Lead and coordinate a team of specialist Teaching Assistants within your room, ensuring a unified approach to student learning, safety, and emotional regulation.
- EHCP Integration: Work alongside the SENCO to implement and track individual targets outlined in each student's Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP).
- Positive Behaviour Support: Cultivate a safe, predictable, and nurturing classroom environment, utilising proactive de-escalation strategies to support dysregulated pupils.
- Progress Tracking: Monitor and record small-step student achievements, adapting your instructional methods based on data and student engagement levels.
- Therapeutic Collaboration: Partner closely with onsite speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, and parents to provide a consistent framework of care.
What You'll Bring to the Team
- Extensive SEN Experience (Mandatory): Significant prior experience working with children or young people with complex special educational needs (e.g., as an SEN TA, HLTA, Residential Support Worker, or Care Team Leader).
- Classroom Confidence: The presence and authority to step up to the front of the room, manage a small class size, and direct support staff effectively.
- Pedagogical Intuition: A deep understanding of how to adapt communication styles (using visual aids or simplified instructions) to reach non-verbal or semi-verbal learners.
- Resilience & Professionalism: A calm, patient demeanour and a thick skin, with the capacity to remain a stabilising presence during behavioural or emotional crises.
- Compliance: An enhanced Child & Adult DBS on the Update Service (or a willingness to process a new one via Randstad).
