Job Title: Assembly Usher
Contract: Immediate start - 31st Dec 2026 (with possible extension)
Hours: Full Time - 37 hours per week / 5 days across Mon to Sat
Salary: £29,137 per annum (plus 12.5% Shift Disturbance Allowance)
As an Assembly Usher, you will report directly to a Senior Assembly Usher and be part of a team responsible primarily for providing customer service to Members, staff, members of the public, and other users of Parliament Buildings. You will also assist in maintaining safety, security, and good order across the premises and outer environments in direct support of Assembly business.

What We Need From You
- Availability: Must be available and willing to work at Parliament Buildings on a standard 37-hour / 5-day week across Monday to Saturday (excluding meal breaks).
- Shift Flexibility: Rotations run on a 3-week cycle (Early, Mid, Late) with flexibility required based on Assembly business. At least 10 working days' notice of work patterns and 3 working days' notice of overtime will be provided where reasonably possible.
- Physical & Safety Requirements: Willingness to undergo physical duties including internal/external security patrols, vehicle searches, and wearing a weighted (5kg) stab-resistant vest during specific duties.
- Security & Training: Completion of a Basic Access NI check and mandatory Fire Safety/Evacuation training
Qualifications & Experience
- 5 GCSEs at grade A*-C including English Language and Maths (or formal qualifications of an equivalent or higher standard).
- AND at least 2 years' experience in each of the following areas:
- a) Delivering high-quality customer service within a customer-facing or service-user-focused environment.
- b) Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey information clearly, accurately, and professionally.
- c) Building positive working relationships to work effectively as part of a team to deliver high standards.
- d) Effectively using Microsoft Office applications to complete administrative duties.
- OR at least 4 years' experience in each of the areas detailed in points (a)-(d) above
Role Responsibilities
- Delivering accurate information and customer service to Members, staff, and public visitors in an unbiased, impartial manner.
- Conducting internal and external security patrols, operating screening equipment, and executing searches of people and vehicles.
- Providing first-line assistance to the PSNI and emergency services, as well as leading emergency evacuations.
- Monitoring and supervising Assembly car parks and screening external mail/goods.
- Managing ID passes, checking security access, utilise Assembly IT systems accurately.
- Collecting, sorting, and delivering internal mail to hit Assembly deadlines.
- Maintaining compliance with all Assembly Commission staff policies, including Equal Opportunities and Dignity at Work.
