Utilities Operator
About the Role
We are seeking a reliable and safety-conscious Utilities Operator to join our team on a temporary basis. The successful candidate will be responsible for the monitoring and routine operation of key utility systems that support our production facility, including steam boilers, water treatment plants, effluent handling systems, and air compressors.
This is a hands-on monitoring role suited to someone with a strong eye for detail, disciplined logging habits, and the confidence to escalate abnormalities quickly and clearly.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and log operating parameters of steam boilers, ensuring safe and efficient operation (pressure, temperature, water levels, combustion).
- Oversee the water treatment plant, including chemical dosing, softeners/RO/Ozone system, and sample collection for lab analysis.
- Monitor effluent water handling systems, ensuring discharge remains within environmental compliance limits (pH, flow, turbidity, etc.).
- Track performance of air compressors and dryers, watching for abnormal pressure, temperature, or dew point issues.
- Conduct regular plant rounds and complete accurate log sheets (paper and DDS).
- Respond promptly to alarms and escalate abnormalities to the Shift Supervisor.
- Perform shift handovers with clear, complete communication.
- Adhere strictly to HSE policies, SOPs, and permit writing systems.
- Assist with routine housekeeping in utility areas.
Requirements
Essential
- Minimum 2 years' experience in a utilities, boiler house, or process plant environment.
- Familiarity with steam boilers, water treatment, and compressed air systems.
- Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, control panels, and DCS/SCADA screens.
- Strong attention to detail and accurate record-keeping.
- Willingness to work night shifts, weekends, and public holidays.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
Desirable
- Boiler Operator's Certificate / relevant statutory ticket.
- Experience with effluent treatment or environmental compliance monitoring.
- Exposure to chemical dosing systems and basic water chemistry.
- Working knowledge of LOTO, confined space, and permit-to-work systems.
