At Randstad, we are delighted to partner with a leading provider in the water safety and treatment sector to recruit a highly skilled Senior Service Chemist. As an established recruitment partner, we are looking for a true technical authority-someone who doesn't just check water parameters, but understands the intricate chemistry behind closed systems, cooling towers, and steam boilers to protect client assets and ensure total compliance.
- Location: Field-Based, Regional & National Travel
- Department: Water Hygiene / Water Treatment
- Reporting to: Operations Manager (Water)
- Position Type: Full-Time
This is a high-impact, technical lead position. You will oversee the chemical control, risk mitigation, and continuous improvement for a diverse portfolio of commercial, industrial, and public sector clients. Balancing hands-on technical analysis with strategic client advisory, you will act as the go-to expert for complex water regimes while mentoring the next generation of engineers and technicians on site.
Key Responsibilities
- Undertake chemical analysis, system monitoring, and dosing adjustments for cooling towers, steam boilers, evaporative systems, and closed heating/chilled systems.
- Ensure all site operations strictly align with ACOP L8 and HSG274 guidance. Support the implementation of Legionella control measures, Written Schemes of Control, and meticulous site logbooks.
- Act as the technical lead for client accounts, delivering practical recommendations for system efficiency, chemical regimes, and remedial risk mitigation.
- Provide mentorship and technical guidance to Service Chemists and Technicians. Assist with RAMS development, complex problem escalation, tenders, and new client mobilisations.
Requirements
- Degree or equivalent in Chemistry, Environmental Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- A minimum of 3-5 years' hands-on experience within water treatment and hygiene, specifically covering cooling towers, steam boilers, and closed loops.
- Deep knowledge of water chemistry (pH, conductivity, microbiological control), dosing regimes, and mechanisms of corrosion, scaling, and fouling.
- Methodical, highly analytical, and confident managing your own field schedule while building strong relationships with client FM teams.
