About the Role
Are you a passionate educator or therapeutic practitioner dedicated to changing the educational journey for children and young people outside mainstream education?
We are seeking empathetic Academic & Therapeutic Tutors to deliver targeted 1-to-1 and small-group support for pupils across our Chelmsford Cluster.
Our students often present with complex needs, including Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) difficulties, Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), neurodivergent profiles, or severe school-based anxiety. Serving as a crucial hub in central Essex, your work in Chelmsford will focus on building trust, supporting emotional regulation, and re-engaging young people in meaningful learning.
Coverage Area
This role covers pupils based within the central county hub of Chelmsford and its immediate surrounding communities, benefiting from excellent local transport routes and concentrated, localised placements.
Key Responsibilities
- Targeted Academic Delivery: Plan and deliver structured, engaging sessions tailored to functional skills, national curriculum subjects, or individual learner interests.
- Therapeutic Interventions: Implement trauma-informed and nurture-based approaches to help students build coping strategies, emotional resilience, and self-esteem.
- Individualised Learning Plans (ILPs): Set realistic personal targets, adapt teaching methods to suit diverse learning styles, and track pupil milestones over time.
- Safeguarding & Multi-Agency Work: Maintain high safeguarding standards and liaise regularly with local authority officers, social care, schools, and families.
- Reporting & Feedback: Provide concise, qualitative feedback following sessions to document engagement, emotional wellbeing, and educational progression.

We invite applications from Qualified Teachers (QTS/QTLS), experienced tutors, Higher Level Teaching Assistants (HLTAs), therapeutic mentors, and specialists in youth work or mental health support.
Essential Requirements:
- Demonstrated experience supporting children or young people with SEND, SEMH, or complex nurture needs.

- Enhanced DBS check registered on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
- Ability to travel locally across Chelmsford and the immediate central Essex area.
Desirable Requirements:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS/QTLS) or therapeutic/coaching qualifications.
- Certification in Trauma-Informed Practice, Team-Teach, MAPA, or NVR (Non-Violent Resistance).
