About the Role
North Tyneside Council is seeking an experienced, high-calibre Safeguarding Specialist to dual-hold critical responsibilities as a Child Protection (CP) Conference Chair and Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO).
This is a vital role driving quality assurance, multi-agency accountability, and robust risk management to ensure positive, safe outcomes for children and young people across the borough.
Key Responsibilities
- Conference Leadership: Chair Initial Child Protection Conferences (ICPCs) and Review Child Protection Conferences in accordance with current child protection procedures.
- Risk Analysis & Planning: Facilitate collaborative, multi-agency analysis to evaluate risk, establish robust care plans, and set clear safeguarding priorities.
- Monitoring & Oversight: Continuously review progress against agreed child protection plans to ensure interventions are effective, timely, and child-centered.
- Allegations Management: Receive, consider, and respond to allegations made against professionals or volunteers working with children-specifically where individuals may have harmed a child, committed an offence, or demonstrated behavior posing a risk to children.
- Multi-Agency Coordination: Lead information-sharing processes, liaise with partner agencies (such as Police, Health, and Education), and organize and chair LADO strategy meetings.
- Oversight & Compliance: Monitor and follow up on ongoing investigations across partner agencies, ensuring full compliance with responsibilities outlined in Working Together to Safeguard Children.
Candidate Requirements
- Active registration with Social Work England (SWE).
- Substantial post-qualifying experience in complex safeguarding, statutory child protection, and management/chairing roles.
- Deep knowledge of relevant statutory frameworks, particularly Working Together to Safeguard Children.
- Strong leadership, analytical, and negotiation skills with a track record of driving multi-agency accountability.
