Consultant Social Worker - Family Safeguarding Team

Lancashire County Council is recruiting a Consultant Social Worker to join their innovative Family Safeguarding Team based at County Hall, Preston (PR1 8RE). Offering a top-tier rate of £40.00 per hour, this role is designed for a confident practitioner who can drive multi-disciplinary practice, mentor staff, and support the Team Manager.
Key Responsibilities:
- Reduced Caseload & Co-Working: Hold a small, complex caseload (equating to approximately 60% of a full caseload) while supporting the co-working of complex cases requiring an advanced degree of professional expertise.
- Practice Leadership & Upskilling: Lead group supervision, embed Motivational Interviewing (MI) skills, support the use of the LCS workbook, and drive team learning activities.
- Staff Oversight & Mentoring: Hold oversight responsibility for up to 2 Specialist Adult Workers and 1 Child and Family Practitioner. Support, co-work with, and mentor ASYEs, students, and less experienced social workers.
- Multi-Disciplinary Collaboration: Work closely with adult specialists (e.g., Mental Health, Substance Misuse, Domestic Abuse) to build creative, outcome-focused plans for children subject to CP or CIN plans.
What We Are Looking For:
- Qualifications & SWE: Recognised Social Work qualification with active Social Work England (SWE) registration.
- Fieldwork Experience: Minimum of 2 years post-qualifying fieldwork experience in statutory Children's Social Care (CP, CIN, Court/PLOs, and Care Planning).
- Practice Supervision & Mentoring: Proven experience or skills in providing practice guidance, coaching, and supporting students or ASYEs (Management/PEPS qualifications are desirable).
