Tata Steel has a permanent opportunity for a Design Engineer to join our Port Talbot site. You will play a key role in designing engineering solutions that support major capital projects, plant improvements, and maintenance excellence.

Salary: £33,120 - £42,000 depending on experience

Start: ASAP, pending the result of a completed medical assessment, which does include a Drug and Alcohol test
This is a dynamic, hands-on role combining plant and office-based work, including site visits to ensure successful implementation of designs across Port Talbot and Llanwern.
Responsibilities:
... - Leading the development of mechanical designs for capital projects and plant performance improvements.
- Approving and validating in-house designs and evaluating those from third-party suppliers.
- Providing technical expertise to resolve plant and equipment failures or inefficiencies.
- Collaborating across technical teams, project engineers, and external engineering partners.
- Ensuring all outputs comply with quality assurance and regulatory standards.
- Using CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Microstation) to deliver high-quality design outputs.
- Mentoring and supporting other engineers to share best practice across the team.
Essential Requirements:
- Degree qualified (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Minimum of five years' experience in a similar role, ideally within manufacturing or heavy industry.
- Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and/or Microstation).
- Confident in performing engineering design calculations for mechanical components and structural fabrications.
- Solid understanding of engineering standards and safety regulations, such as the Health & Safety at Work Act.
- Strong interpersonal skills to present ideas clearly to engineers and external partners.
