We are seeking a highly skilled Qualified Design & Technology Teacher (QTS) to join a wonderful Secondary School in Bury St Edmunds. Whether your strength lies in Resistant Materials, Systems and Control, Product Design, or Engineering, we need a teacher who prioritises safety, precision, and creativity. This is a role for a practitioner who wants to equip students with the practical skills and the "design thinking" mindset needed for the 21st-century workforce.
Your Responsibilities
- Hands-On Lesson Delivery: Plan and facilitate engaging practical and theory lessons across KS3 and KS4, covering the full design process from initial sketching to final prototype.
- GCSE & Level 2 Success: Lead Year 10 and 11 students through their Non-Exam Assessment (NEA), providing expert guidance on material properties, manufacturing techniques, and CAD/CAM integration.
- Workshop Safety Leadership: Maintain an impeccable standard of health and safety, ensuring all students are fully trained on machinery and hand tools in accordance with DATA (Design & Technology Association) standards.
- Technical Instruction: Teach students how to work confidently with a range of materials (timbers, metals, polymers) and modern technologies like 3D printers and laser cutters.
- Inclusive Innovation: Differentiate projects to ensure that all students-regardless of their starting point or SEN needs-can experience the satisfaction of creating a high-quality physical product.
- Resource Management: Work closely with the departmental technician to manage stock, maintain equipment, and ensure a sustainable and organised workshop environment.
What You'll Bring to the Team
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS): Mandatory. A degree in Design & Technology, Engineering, Product Design, or a related field.
- Technical Proficiency: Confidence in using a wide range of workshop machinery and software (such as 2D Design, SolidWorks, or Fusion 360).
- Safety-First Mentality: A rigorous approach to classroom management and workshop safety protocols.
- Industry Insight: The ability to link classroom projects to real-world careers in architecture, engineering, and manufacturing.
- Compliance: An enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service (or a willingness to process a new one urgently through Randstad).
