Bury St Edmunds
Can you make the past feel present? We are looking for a storyteller who can turn a list of dates into a compelling narrative of power, people, and progress.
We are seeking a dynamic and intellectually curious Qualified History Teacher (QTS) to join a high-performing Humanities department in a wonderful Secondary School in Bury St Edmunds. Whether you are exploring the intricacies of the Tudors, the complexities of the Cold War, or the depths of the Industrial Revolution, we need a teacher who can challenge students to think critically, analyse evidence, and argue with conviction. This is a role for a historian who wants to shape the next generation of critical thinkers.
Your Responsibilities
- Compelling Lesson Delivery: Plan and deliver lessons that ignite a passion for the past across KS3 and KS4, moving beyond the textbook to use primary sources and artifacts.
- GCSE Mastery: Lead Year 11 cohorts through their exam specifications, focusing on essay-building techniques, source analysis, and historical interpretations.
- Critical Thinking Advocacy: Teach students how to evaluate bias, assess reliability, and form well-supported judgments-skills that are vital both in the classroom and in the wider world.
- Inclusive Scaffolding: Adapt complex historical concepts and dense texts to ensure they are accessible to all learners, including those with EAL or SEN.
- Curriculum Enrichment: Contribute to the development of a diverse and representative curriculum that reflects a broad range of global and local histories.
- Literacy Focus: Support students in developing high-level academic writing and the ability to structure complex historical arguments.
What You'll Bring to the Team
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS): Mandatory. A degree in History or a closely related Humanities subject.
- Subject Depth: A broad knowledge of the National Curriculum and a genuine enthusiasm for historical inquiry.
- Classroom Presence: The ability to lead a room with confidence and foster a culture of respectful debate and intellectual curiosity.
- Analytical Approach: The skill to use assessment data to identify student progress and implement targeted interventions for GCSE cohorts.
- Compliance: An enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service (or a willingness to process a new one urgently through Randstad).
