Interim Housing Enforcement Officer
Location: Whitehaven (covering South Cumberland)
Salary/Rate: £42,000 per annum
Hours: 4 days / 30 hours per week
Working Pattern: Hybrid (Minimum 2 days on-site/field-based per week)
Start Date: ASAP
About the Role
Are you an experienced Housing Enforcement Officer looking for your next challenge in beautiful South Cumberland?
We are seeking a skilled professional to hit the ground running due to an internal departure. Based out of our Whitehaven office, you will play a critical role in ensuring housing standards are met across the region. Because we are concurrently recruiting for a permanent replacement, this role offers an immediate start with a high potential for a temp-to-perm transition if desired.
Key Responsibilities
Conducting thorough HHSRS inspections across private sector housing.
Managing HMO licensing applications, compliance, and inspections.
Issuing formal enforcement notices and progressing subsequent legal actions.
Handling enforcement escalations, including civil penalties and prosecutions where necessary.
What We Are Looking For
Proven experience working as a Housing Enforcement / Environmental Health Officer within a local authority.
Deep technical knowledge of HHSRS framework and HMO legislation.
Confidence in issuing notices and managing the legalities of non-compliance.
A valid driver's license and access to a vehicle for on-site inspections.
