Are you an experienced educator or specialist support worker skilled at closing academic and developmental gaps for children with additional needs? We are seeking a dedicated SEN Intervention Specialist for a full-time, long-term placement at a highly regarded SEN school in Bury St Edmunds.
In this targeted role, you will move away from general classroom assistance to design and deliver bespoke, measurable intervention programs. You will work closely with pupils who require structured, creative support to overcome barriers related to communication, literacy, numeracy, and sensory processing.
Key Responsibilities:
Deliver Targeted Interventions: Plan and implement tailored 1:1 and small-group interventions focusing on key areas such as speech and language, phonics, basic numeracy, or motor skills.
Track & Assess Progress: Monitor pupil development meticulously against their individual Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), maintaining clear data to showcase breakthrough moments and areas requiring adjustment.
Adapt Curriculum Delivery: Break down complex learning concepts into accessible, sensory-friendly, and highly engaging practical tasks suited to individual cognitive profiles.
Collaborate with Specialists: Work in lockstep with class teachers, SENDCos, speech and language therapists, and educational psychologists to ensure a cohesive approach to each child's development.
Foster Confidence: Provide a structured, low-anxiety environment where vulnerable pupils feel safe to try, fail, and ultimately succeed.
Candidate Requirements:
Proven experience delivering structured learning interventions (e.g., speech & language, reading recovery, catch-up numeracy) within an SEN, primary, or specialist setting.
Deep understanding of complex needs, including Autism (ASC), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), ADHD, and Speech, Language & Communication Needs (SLCN).
Exceptional patience, organisational skills, and the ability to accurately analyse and report on student progress data.
Training in specialist methodologies (e.g., PECS, Makaton, Colourful Semantics, or Numicon) is highly advantageous.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to de-escalate challenging behavior with a calm, neutral approach.
A valid Enhanced DBS check registered on the Update Service (or a willingness to complete a new check immediately).
Professional Benefits:
Long-Term Stability: A secure, full-time position within a single school team, providing the timeline needed to see true, measurable progress in your pupils.
Competitive Weekly Pay: Excellent daily rates paid reliably through our weekly payroll system.
Professional Growth: Work in a specialised hub alongside multidisciplinary experts, significantly expanding your SEND portfolio.
Dedicated Consultant: Support from a specialist consultant with extensive knowledge of the West Suffolk specialist education sector.
