Lead First Aider / Medical Needs Co-ordinator
Location: Luton, Bedfordshire
Hourly Rate: £14.50 - £16.00 per hour (dependent on experience)
Contract: Temporary, Term Time Only (4-Week Assignment)
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:15 AM - 3:15 PM
Reporting To: Assistant Headteacher / Business Manager
Are you an experienced First Aider, Healthcare Assistant, or Medical Co-ordinator looking for a rewarding short-term role within a supportive educational environment?
Randstad Education is currently recruiting for a Lead First Aider / Medical Needs Co-ordinator to join a dynamic school community in Luton on a 4-week temporary contract starting immediately.
Key Responsibilities:
- First Aid & Emergency Response: Deliver immediate emergency first aid and triage to students, staff, and visitors. Assess injuries/illnesses to determine appropriate care, parent collection, or emergency service escalation (999).
- Medication & Healthcare Plans: Administer prescribed and over-the-counter medications safely in line with consent policies. Oversee Individual Healthcare Plans (IHPs) for conditions such as Anaphylaxis, Asthma, Epilepsy, and Diabetes.
- Medical Room Management: Maintain a hygienic, calm, and fully stocked medical room. Regularly inspect emergency equipment including AEDs, spare auto-injectors, and inhalers. Manage first aid kit distribution across school departments and trip kits.
- Administration & Reporting: Log all incidents accurately using school management software (SIMS, Arbor, CPOMS). Notify parents promptly regarding head injuries or illness, and handle local authority accident logs (RIDDOR/Luton Borough Council) when required.
- Safeguarding & Student Welfare: Act as a key contact for pupil wellbeing, reporting any safeguarding concerns directly to the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) and identifying frequent medical visit trends.
Requirements:
Essential:
- Valid First Aid at Work (FAW) or Paediatric First Aid qualification (3-day HSE approved).
- GCSE English and Maths at Grade C/4 (or equivalent).
- Previous experience in a school, healthcare, or care setting.
- An Enhanced DBS check on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for one).
- Strong organisational, record-keeping, and communication skills under pressure.
Desirable:
- Specialist training in Medication Administration, EpiPen, or Asthma management.
- Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) qualification.
- Working knowledge of DfE guidance (Supporting Pupils at School with Medical Conditions).
