Are you a compassionate, resilient mentor looking to make a tangible difference in the lives of young people in Plymouth? We are seeking a dedicated Learning Mentor to work within an Alternative Provision, supporting young individuals to overcome barriers to learning and successfully re-engage with education.
Based primarily at the provision, this role also involves taking young people out into the community on designated days of the week for interactive, practical learning experiences.
Key Responsibilities:
- 1:1 & Small Group Support: Provide direct emotional, academic, and behavioural support to young people with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
- Community Learning Outings: Escort and mentor students on planned community learning days, helping them develop life skills and learn in real-world environments.
- Re-Engagement: Work closely with vulnerable learners to build confidence, resilience, and a positive mindset toward education.
- Core Skills Coaching: Support young people with functional literacy and numeracy skills using GCSE Maths and English foundations.
Essential Criteria:
- SEMH Experience: Proven background supporting young people with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health needs or challenging behaviours.
- Core Qualifications: Grade C/4 or above in GCSE English and Maths (or equivalent Functional Skills).
- Driving Requirements: A valid UK driving license and access to a reliable vehicle are essential for taking students out on community learning days.
- Mindset: Patient, non-judgemental, highly resilient, and passionate about helping young people succeed.
