The Monitoring Engineer serves as a technical bridge between site operations and project management. You will work closely with client representatives, subcontractors, and the public, requiring a personable, confident professional who can operate under pressure in a high-profile infrastructure environment.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Operations & Data Management
Installation & Commissioning: Lead the supply, installation, and commissioning of geotechnical and structural instrumentation. Produce detailed Commissioning Installation Reports upon completion.
Data Interpretation: Collate and interpret monitoring data via gtcvisual, ensuring accurate recording and systematic filing of all project data.
Technical Support: Provide expert fault-finding skills and technical troubleshooting for on-site equipment and software.
Documentation: Produce robust Method Statements, Risk Assessments, and Activity Briefings (RAMS) to ensure all site activities are planned and executed safely.
Site & Subcontractor Management
Field Oversight: Manage and supervise subcontractors during equipment installation and survey activities.
Resource Management: Manage operatives effectively to maximize performance, safety, and motivation on site.
Procurement: Responsible for purchasing specialized equipment and hiring materials required for your specific work area.
Client & Stakeholder Relations
Reporting: Attend data meetings and present complex monitoring information to the client in a clear, concise manner.
Liaison: Act as the primary interface between site supervisory staff and client representatives.
Communication: Maintain high standards of interaction with the public, ensuring project activities are communicated professionally.
Commercial & Professional Standards
Finance: Maintain a strong appreciation of the contract cost structure, including fixed/variable costs and the distinction between revenue and capital expenditure.
Risk Management: Demonstrate a clear understanding of risk and opportunity management within a contractual framework.

About You
Experience & Skills
Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of geotechnical engineering and I&M best practices.
Software Proficiency: Proficient in AutoCAD, Excel, and project management software.
Contractual Awareness: Familiarity with contract conditions and the ability to report contractual changes effectively.
Communication: Excellent writing and presentation skills with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
Attributes: Self-motivated, resilient under pressure, and committed to Continuous Professional Development (CPD).
Qualifications & Requirements
CSCS Card Holder (Mandatory).
CPCS Appointed Person Card (Essential).
Experience specifically within large-scale civil engineering projects (Rail or Tunneling experience highly advantageous).
Full UK Driving License.
