Location: Chippenham, Wiltshire (Bumpers Farm Industrial Estate)
Salary: £44,225 per annum (£21.26/hr base) + £3,500 Guaranteed On-Call Standby Pay
Total Package: £47,700 base package + Overtime
Shift Pattern: Full-Time, 40 hours per week (Monday to Friday, Rotating Double Days: 6am-2pm / 2pm-10pm)
On-Call Rota: 1 in 5 weekends
The Opportunity
We are currently recruiting for an Electrical-Bias Maintenance Engineer to join a well-established, market-leading manufacturing business at their key production facility in Chippenham.
Working as part of a dedicated 5-person site engineering team, you will be responsible for maintaining optimum operational efficiency across automated production machinery. This is an ideal role for a skilled engineer looking for a stable Monday-to-Friday double-day shift pattern, strong team support, and competitive overall earnings.
Package & Financial Benefits
- Base Salary: £44,225 per annum (£21.26/hr)
- Weekend On-Call Allowance: £340 standby payment per on-call weekend on a 1-in-5 rota (+£3,500/yr added to base pay)
- Enhanced Call-Out Overtime: Minimum 5 hours paid per call-out at 1.33x overtime rate (£33.38/hr)
Core Responsibilities
- Reactive & Planned Maintenance: Perform rapid breakdown repairs and execute scheduled Preventative Maintenance (PPM) routines on high-speed automated production machinery.
- Electrical Diagnostics: Complex fault-finding and troubleshooting with and without schematics, covering 3-phase systems, AC/DC drives, inverters, switchgear, and PLC-controlled equipment.
- Mechanical & Fluid Power Support: Handle mechanical component repairs alongside hydraulic and pneumatic systems fault-finding.
- Continuous Improvement: Participate in site upgrade projects, root cause analysis, and failure reduction initiatives to boost machine OEE and minimise unplanned downtime.
- Site Safety & Standards: Maintain a safe working environment in line with site H&S standards and ensure clean workshop/stores areas.
Requirements & Experience
Essential:
- Qualifications: City & Guilds Level 3 or NVQ Level 3 in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
- Electrical Fault-Finding: Strong diagnostic capabilities on PLCs (fault diagnosis/function), drives, inverters, and 3-phase power.
- Mechanical Aptitude: Proven track record in mechanical breakdown repairs and diagnostic work on automated manufacturing kit.
- Fluid Power: Experience working with pneumatic systems.
- Mindset: Strong team player, right-first-time attitude, and comfortable working under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
Desirable:
- Apprentice-trained to ONC/HNC level or equivalent.
- 18th Edition IET Wiring Regulations certification.
- Hydraulic system experience.
- Experience within high-speed manufacturing, print, packaging, or automated production environments.
