Pastoral Lead
Position Type: Permanent, Full-Time, Term Time Only
Salary: £27,463 to £29,982 per annum (£15.37 - £16.78/hr, depending on experience)
Location: Mansfield
Hours: 40 hours per week (Enjoy your evenings and school holidays!)
If you are a pastoral professional, you didn't choose this career to shuffle paperwork or manage an endless assembly line of detentions. You did it to be the steady anchor for a child navigating a storm.
In mainstream settings, massive student numbers often mean you are only firefighting the latest crisis. This role is completely different.
Based at our specialised alternative provision in Mansfield, you will have the time, the resource, and the professional autonomy to build genuine, transformative relationships with young people (aged 7-19) who have faced complex barriers to learning, SEND profiles, or mental health challenges. Here, your work isn't a drop in the ocean-it is the entire turning point for our students.
Why This Role Matters (And Why It's Better):
Proactive, Not Just Reactive: You aren't just managing behaviour; you are reshaping futures. You will lead on holistic wellbeing, student voice, and targeted 1:1 interventions to stop barriers before they form.
A Therapeutic Environment: We don't believe in punitive compliance. You will help cultivate a trauma-informed, safe, and nurturing space where students feel heard, respected, and empowered.
True Multidisciplinary Support: You won't be marooned on an island. You will collaborate daily with an expert, tight-knit team of educators, managers, and external agencies who all share the same child-centred mission.
The Perfect Balance: A permanent, full-time career that respects your personal life. Work 40 hours a week during term time, and enjoy your holidays to disconnect and recharge.
What You'll Be Doing Every Day:
Providing dedicated, daily pastoral and mental wellbeing care to students who need an empathetic champion.
Delivering structured 1:1 interventions, tutorial support, and facilitating student voice initiatives (like student councils) to give our young people agency.
Leading on conflict resolution, restorative mediation, and student de-briefs.
Partnering closely with families, carers, and social care agencies to build a protective ring of support around each learner.
Monitoring and analysing pastoral data to spot trends, measure progress, and actively shape personalised student support plans.
Who We Are Looking For:
We are seeking a calm, reflective, and resilient practitioner who knows how to hold boundaries with deep empathy.
Qualifications: Level 3 qualification (or above) in a relevant field (Youth Work, Social Care, Counselling, Education) along with Level 2 English/Maths.
Proven Track Record: Extensive experience in a dedicated pastoral, youth work, or wellbeing role.
SEND & Mental Health Expertise: Strong experience supporting young people with complex needs, Autism (ASC), or mental health vulnerabilities.
De-escalation Masters: Natural ability to stay calm under pressure and use positive, non-punitive strategies to safely de-escalate challenging situations.
Safeguarding First: A robust, unshakeable understanding of safeguarding protocols within education.
If you have experience in Alternative Provision (AP) or a specialist school, that's great-but if you have the right values, passion, and resilience from a related sector, we want to hear from you.
