We are recruiting a dedicated Primary Teaching Assistant for a long-term position starting September 2026 at a vibrant primary school in Hemel Hempstead. Working across Early Years, Key Stage 1, and Key Stage 2, this role is ideal for someone passionate about helping children build confidence, supporting small group learning, and creating an inclusive classroom environment.
Core Responsibilities
- Classroom Assistance: Support the lead teacher with activity setup, room management, and maintaining an organised, safe learning space.
- Group Learning Support: Facilitate guided reading, basic literacy practice, and targeted numeracy exercises for small groups of pupils.
- 1:1 Pupil Guidance: Offer tailored individual support to pupils who require extra assistance or have Special Educational Needs (SEND).
- Behaviour Reinforcement: Help implement positive behaviour strategies to keep students focused, motivated, and engaged.
- Resource Preparation: Assist in organising learning materials, dynamic display boards, and creative classroom resources.
- Child Safeguarding: Help monitor student safety and wellbeing across classroom activities, assemblies, and playground duty.
Candidate Requirements
- Experience: Background working with children in a primary school, nursery, or youth care setting (a Level 2 or Level 3 TA qualification is desirable).
- Core Skills: Strong interpersonal skills, patience, adaptability, and a solid grasp of foundational primary literacy and maths.
- Proactive Mindset: An encouraging, hands-on approach with a genuine desire to work collaboratively alongside teaching staff.
- Vetting: An Enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service (or readiness to apply for a new one via Randstad).
