About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Principal EICA Engineer with a strong background in the UK water sector to lead and deliver engineering solutions across key UK water frameworks.
This role offers full flexibility for remote working, combined with ad-hoc site travel, supplier Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), and strategic collaboration in our Manchester hub 2-3 times per month. Reporting to the Project Lead Engineer's taking the reins as the Lead Engineer on dedicated projects-you will drive cost-effective, high-performing EICA designs from concept through to commissioning.
Key Responsibilities
- Technical Design & Delivery: Prepare, check, and approve outline and detailed electrical, instrumentation, control, and automation (EICA) design documentation. Ensure solutions are cost-effective, compliant with scope specifications, and optimised for procurement, installation, and commissioning.
- Client & Stakeholder Engagement: Serve as a technical point of contact for clients, sub-contractors, and internal teams, ensuring technical requirements are clearly aligned and delivered.
- Site & Factory Assurance: Conduct site surveys and attend Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) at supplier facilities, compiling full post-test reporting.
- Procurement & Commercials: Draft equipment/materials requisitions, define installation scopes of work, review supplier quotations, and perform technical bid assessments. Keep designs aligned with project budgets.
- Compliance & Standards: Guarantee all works adhere to national/international codes, HSE regulations, client standards, and industry-specific legislation.
- Team Governance: Allocate work to project teams, monitor delivery against planned milestones, and uphold high technical quality control.
Key Requirements & Qualifications
Qualifications & Certifications:
- Degree in Electrical, Electronic, or Control Engineering (or equivalent experience / completed apprenticeship route).
- Chartered (CEng) or Incorporated (IEng) Engineer status with a relevant body (or demonstrably working towards it).
Technical Experience:
- 15+ years of engineering experience within the Water sector or closely aligned process industries.
- Client-facing experience within recent UK water framework projects.
- Deep technical working knowledge of WIMES (Water Industry Mechanical and Electrical Specifications) and UK water design practices.
- Proven capability in design/installation for hazardous areas (ATEX / DSEAR).
- Strong working knowledge of UK legislation and machinery compliance, including CE/UKCA marking, PED, Low Voltage Directive, Machinery Directive, and EMC Compliance.
- Solid background in site construction and commissioning support.
