About the Role
A rewarding opportunity has arisen for a dedicated Science Technician to support a thriving secondary science department in Bradford on a full-time, temporary basis starting in September. In this essential role, the successful candidate will work behind the scenes and in classrooms to prepare practical experiments, manage chemical stock, maintain equipment, and strictly enforce health and safety guidelines (COSHH / CLEAPSS) across Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. The role is pivotal in ensuring that students gain engaging, practical laboratory experience in a safe and supportive learning environment.

Requirements
... - Relevant Experience: Previous experience working as a lab technician in an educational settings.
- Educational Qualification: A relevant qualification in Science (A-Level, NVQ Level 2/3, HND, or Science Degree).
- Enhanced DBS: An Enhanced Child Workforce DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for one).
- Eligibility to Work in the UK: Full UK Right to Work documentation.
Key Skills Required
- Scientific Literacy: Good understanding of core practical techniques across Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.
- COSHH & Safety Awareness: Thorough knowledge of school lab safety rules, hazard symbols, and risk assessments.
- Attention to Detail: Precision in measuring chemical concentrations and setting up delicate equipment.
- Time Management: Ability to prioritise tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment between school periods.
- Problem-Solving Skills: Capability to troubleshoot equipment faults or experiment setups quickly.
- Communication Skills: Clear verbal and written skills to liaise effectively with teachers and teaching assistants.
Key Responsibilities
- Practical Preparation: Prepare and assemble apparatus, chemical reagents, and specimens for daily practical lessons across Key Stage 3 and 4.
- Health & Safety Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to COSHH guidelines, CLEAPSS regulations, and general school laboratory safety protocols.
- Stock & Inventory Control: Monitor, log, and reorder science consumables, chemical stocks, and laboratory apparatus.
- Equipment Servicing & Maintenance: Inspect, clean, test, and perform minor repairs on laboratory instruments and glassware.
- Chemical Solution Preparation: Safely measure, dilute, and prepare chemical solutions, handling hazardous substances securely.
- Classroom Technical Support: Provide direct technical guidance and assistance to teachers and students during practical laboratory sessions.
- Waste Disposal Management: Safely collect, process, and dispose of chemical, biological, and general laboratory waste according to guidelines.
- Demonstration Setup: Set up and test complex scientific experiments prior to teacher demonstrations in class.
- Laboratory Maintenance: Maintain clean, safe, organised prep rooms, chemical stores, and teaching laboratories.
- Resource Scheduling: Coordinate equipment allocation efficiently across science staff and multiple teaching rooms.
