We are seeking a dedicated SEN Teacher to take over a beautifully structured, small Upper Key Stage 2 class at a wonderful specialist provision in Peterborough. This position offers immediate, consistent long-term stability for the right educator.
The Classroom Profile:
You will lead a small, close-knit class designed specifically to help learners transition toward their secondary years in a calm and safe environment.
The Pupils: A small cohort of 7 learners in Upper KS2.
Communication & Curriculum: The pupils have varied needs and are mostly non-verbal. The class follows a semi-formal curriculum with a heavy focus on functional communication, life skills, and early phonics.
Care Profile: There are no complex medical needs within this class, allowing you to focus entirely on learning, sensory integration, and communication.
Behaviour & Sensory: The pupils have high sensory needs and require consistent Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) as some individuals display challenging behaviours when overstimulated or frustrated.
Key Responsibilities:
Tailored Delivery: Plan and deliver a highly creative, sensory-based, semi-formal curriculum, embedding early phonics and communication frameworks into daily routines.
Positive Behaviour Support: Implement robust PBS plans alongside a skilled team of support staff, utilising proactive de-escalation strategies to manage challenging behaviours safely and positively.
Sensory Integration: Incorporate sensory breaks, dietary requirements for sensory regulation, and low-arousal teaching techniques into the classroom structure.
Collaboration: Work closely with the class teaching assistants, speech and language therapists, and parents to ensure a consistent approach to communication and behaviour.
What We Are Looking For:
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification (Teachers with a strong instinct for differentiation and behaviour management are highly encouraged to apply).
Proven experience or a deep understanding of supporting non-verbal learners and implementing early literacy/phonics at a pre-key stage level.
Real strength in Positive Behaviour Support (PBS)-someone with a calm and reassuring presence who does not phase easily.
Available for an immediate (ASAP) start.
A valid Enhanced DBS check registered on the Update Service (or a willingness to complete an urgent application).
