Salary: M1 to M6 (Scale dependent)
Position: Permanent, Full-Time (40 Hours)
Location: Alternative Provision City Hub, Nottingham
The Promise: Class sizes of 3-6, realistic workloads, and the time to actually teach.
If you are currently Googling alternative careers, updating your CV, or feeling completely burnt out by the relentless pressure of mainstream schooling, please wait. You don't hate teaching. You hate the crowd control, the endless data-crunching, and the feeling that you are failing your students because you simply don't have the time to care for them all.
An exceptional Alternative Provision City Hub in Nottingham wants to offer you a lifeline. We are looking for passionate, resilient mainstream teachers who want to rediscover their love for education in a setting that values human connection over rigid bureaucracy.
How We Restructure the Job You Love
Alternative Provision isn't what you think it is. It isn't a demotion; it is teaching stripped down to its purest, most rewarding form. Here is how we do things differently:
3 to 6 Learners Per Class: Read that again. No more managing 30 conflicting personalities at once. You can finally look every single student in the eye, understand their needs, and watch them progress.
Workload that Respects Your Life: Our planning and marking frameworks are built around creativity, innovation, and pupil voice-not ticking boxes for an internal audit.
Real Team Support: You are never marooned on an island. You will have dedicated Teaching Assistants assigned to your groups to manage targeted 1:1 support under your direction.
Your Passions Matter: We deliver a flexible, holistic curriculum. While a background or confidence in KS3/KS4 Maths and Functional Skills is highly advantageous, we want you to bring your hobbies and personal interests into the classroom to engage these kids.
What You'll Actually Do
Rebuild Trust: Use relational and restorative approaches to behaviour. You will swap shouty, zero-tolerance policies for conversations that actually fix the root of the problem.
Teach the Whole Child: Deliver engaging lessons that balance vital academic targets with personal development, wellbeing, and real-world life skills.
Track Real Progress: Set personalised goals using baseline assessments so you can see the tangible, rewarding impact of your teaching every single week.
Collaborate: Partner with an incredibly supportive internal team, families, and external agencies to help these young people transition to their next steps.
Why You Are Perfect For This (Even Without SEN Experience)
Many mainstream teachers worry they aren't "qualified" for SEN or Alternative Provision. If you can survive a mainstream classroom, you have all the resilience and skill you need. We hire for mindset, empathy, and adaptability-we can train you on the rest.
Requirements: QTS, PGCE, or equivalent.
The Essentials: The ability to teach a specialist subject, a reflective mindset, a valid driving license, and a genuine desire to give kids a fresh start.
Before You Quit the Profession, Try This Instead:
"I was ready to leave education entirely. I was exhausted. Coming here reminded me why I got into teaching in the first place. I finally have the time to be the teacher I always wanted to be."
