Could you be the educator who turns small breakthroughs into life-changing milestones?
Do you believe every young person deserves an education that honours their individuality, voice, and dignity?
Are you passionate about unlocking communication for learners who experience the world differently-whether through an eye-gaze device, a switch, or a subtle change in expression?
Do you thrive in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment where physiotherapy, sensory integration, and bespoke learning go hand-in-hand?
If so, our welcoming specialist setting in Sheffield S2 wants to hear from you.
About the Role
We are seeking an adaptable, compassionate, and skilled Secondary SEN Teacher to lead a vibrant class of young people (Key Stages 3 & 4) who have Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD) and complex Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC).
Our pupils learn best in low-arousal, highly sensory, and structured environments. In this role, you will deliver a rich, flexible curriculum centered around communication, personal development, and sensory engagement-collaborating closely with Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, and our dedicated team of specialist Teaching Assistants.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and deliver meaningful, sensory-focused learning programmes informed by the Engagement Model and EHCP outcomes.
- Champion communication by embedding AAC systems such as Makaton, PECS, Eye Gaze, and Objects of Reference across all activities.
- Lead, coordinate, and empower a dedicated team of classroom support staff to ensure consistency and high-quality care.
- Work alongside physiotherapists and healthcare specialists to seamlessly weave therapeutic exercises and personal care into daily routines.
- Foster a safe, inclusive, and joyful classroom community that celebrates every step of progress.
Who We Are Looking For
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent (ECTs with substantial special school experience are encouraged to apply).
- Direct experience teaching or supporting learners with PMLD, SLD, or severe/non-verbal autism.
- Familiarity with alternative communication strategies and positive behavioural support.
- A reflective, compassionate approach with high expectations for learner wellbeing and autonomy.
