We are currently seeking an empathetic and proactive Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistant to join a warm, inclusive school community in Cambridge on a full-time, permanent basis.
In this rewarding role, you will work closely with class teachers, SENCOs, and external specialists to support pupils across the school who have Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). Whether providing 1:1 tailored support or facilitating small-group learning, you will be instrumental in creating an accessible, encouraging environment where every child feels valued and empowered to achieve their potential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide high-quality 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with a range of needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Moderate/Severe Learning Difficulties (MLD/SLD), Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN), or physical/sensory requirements.
- Assist in delivering tailored learning activities and interventions aligned with individual Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
- Utilise sensory regulation tools, visual timetables, and alternative communication methods (such as PECS or Makaton) to encourage active learning and pupil independence.
- Support pupils with emotional regulation and positive behaviour management using gentle, nurture-focused techniques.
- Assist with personal care and mobility requirements where applicable (including assistance with hygiene, changing, or mealtimes), maintaining student dignity, safety, and respect at all times.
- Track individual progress and maintain regular communication with the SENCO, class teachers, and parents/carers.
What We Look For:
- Proven Experience: Previous experience supporting children or young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) in an educational, care, or support setting.
- A Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning, Early Years, or Health & Social Care is highly desirable.
- A warm, resilient, patient, and adaptable personality with a genuine passion for inclusive education.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build quick, trusting relationships with children, colleagues, and families.
- Willingness and confidence to assist with personal care duties where required by pupil EHCPs.
- A valid Enhanced DBS check registered on the Update Service (or a willingness to complete one).
What The School Offers:
- Permanent Security: A full-time, contracted position offering long-term stability and clear pathways for career growth.
- Competitive Salary: Reflective of your experience, qualifications, and SEN expertise.
- Ongoing Professional Development: Access to specialised internal and external SEN training (including moving & handling, autism awareness, and speech & language strategies).
- Supportive Culture: A collaborative, welcoming staff team and leadership group committed to inclusive practice and staff well-being.
