Are you an empathetic, compassionate, and resilient individual looking for a rewarding role where you can make a tangible difference?
Can you provide a stable, encouraging presence for young people with complex needs, celebrating their micro-milestones and offering a reliable routine?
Whether you are an experienced SEN TA or looking to pivot from a care, psychology, or youth-coaching background, Randstad Education wants to hear from you.
We are seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant for a full-time, long-term position at our partner SEN School based in Luton. This vibrant, exceptionally supportive setting caters to pupils with a wide spectrum of learning challenges, including Autism (ASD), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), and complex communication profiles. Working here means joining a unified, collaborative team that looks past a student's diagnosis to foster an environment where every young person is empowered to grow.
Your Responsibilities
- Personalised Learning Support: Support pupils on a 1:1 and small-group basis, guiding them through tailored activities that align strictly with their Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs).
- Communication & Sensory Support: Integrate functional communication systems (such as Makaton, PECS, and visual timetables) and sensory strategies seamlessly into the student's daily routine.
- Positive Behaviour Support: Maintain a safe, predictable, and nurturing atmosphere by utilising proactive de-escalation techniques and sensory breaks during times of emotional dysregulation.
- Life Skills & Independence Coaching: Help students build emotional literacy, social confidence, and practical life skills to champion their long-term independence.
- Sensory & Personal Care: Assist pupils during outdoor play, lunchtime, and sensory exploration, providing mobility or personal care assistance with the utmost dignity and respect.
- Progress Recording: Track daily student engagement, milestones, and breakthroughs, providing clear feedback to the Class Teacher, SENCO, and visiting therapists.
What You'll Bring to the Team
- The Right Mindset: Outstanding compassion, a warm and approachable demeanour, and a genuine passion for advocating for special educational needs.
- Transferable Skills: Prior experience in child/adult care, support work, mental health services, sports coaching, or youth work is highly desirable.
- Emotional Resilience: A calm, grounded temperament with the confidence to support pupils effectively during periods of anxiety or behavioural distress.
- Commitment to Consistency: Because our pupils thrive on predictability, you must be able to commit to a structured, full-time Monday-to-Friday school schedule.
- Compliance: An enhanced Child & Adult DBS on the Update Service (or a willingness to process a new one via Randstad).
