Are you an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant or SEMH Support Worker searching for a long-term role in Plymouth?
Randstad Education is seeking a dedicated, resilient, and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join a high-performing Alternative Provision in Plymouth. This role is ideal for an individual with a background in Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH), trauma-informed care, or youth mentoring.
Unlike standard mainstream positions, this Alternative Provision role focuses on re-engaging vulnerable learners, managing complex behaviour, and delivering bespoke 1:1 and small-group academic and emotional support.
Key Responsibilities
- SEMH & Behaviour Management: Implement effective de-escalation techniques, trauma-informed practices, and positive behaviour strategies for pupils with SEMH and SEND.
- 1:1 & Small Group Mentoring: Act as a role model and mentor to raise self-esteem, build resilience, and encourage positive learning habits.
- Community Access Support: Utilise your full UK driving license to assist with off-site educational activities, vocational training, and community-based learning sessions.
- Multi-Agency Collaboration: Partner closely with teachers, SENCOs, social workers, and educational psychologists to monitor progress and adapt EHCP (Education, Health and Care Plan) targets.
Applicant Requirements (Essential & Desirable)
- SEMH Experience (Essential): Demonstrated experience supporting children or young adults with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health needs, challenging behaviours, or autism (ASD).
- Driving License (Essential): Must hold a full, valid UK driving license with access to a reliable vehicle.
- Location (Essential): Must be able to commute daily to Plymouth, Devon.
- Qualifications (Desirable): Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant qualification (e.g., CACHE Level 3), Team Teach, or Youth Work experience.
- Compliance: Enhanced DBS check on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for one) and full right to work in the UK.
