Are you passionate about making a genuine difference in the lives of young people with complex needs?
Do you have a resilient nature and the ability to build strong, trusting relationships?
Are you looking for a rewarding full-time role within a supportive and active learning environment?
The School
Based in the Retford area, the school is a dedicated specialist setting catering to students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The school prides itself on providing a "nurture-first" curriculum, where active learning is at the heart of everything they do. By focusing on the individual rather than the diagnosis, the school creates a safe space for pupils who have often struggled in mainstream education. The team is collaborative, passionate, and committed to helping every student find their spark.
The Role
This is a full-time position which could go temp - perm (Monday - Friday, term-time only) supporting students across various age groups. We are looking for someone who is energetic and ready to get involved. Whether you are leading a sports session in the morning or supporting a literacy task in the afternoon, your goal is to keep students engaged and regulated throughout the school day.
We are particularly interested in candidates with:
A background in sports or outdoor education (preferred but not essential).
Experience in care or support work-if you have the right attitude and empathy, we can teach you the rest!
Team Teach training (highly desirable, though not a deal-breaker as training can be discussed).
Skills & Requirements
Resilience: The ability to remain calm and professional during challenging situations.
Empathy: A deep understanding of SEMH needs and the barriers these students face.
Adaptability: No two days are the same; you must be able to think on your feet.
Communication: Strong verbal and written skills to liaise with staff and record student progress.
Active Mindset: A willingness to participate in physical activities and active learning sessions.
Duties & Responsibilities
Providing 1:1 and small group support to students with SEMH needs.
Assisting the Class Teacher in managing classroom behaviour and maintaining a positive environment.
Leading or assisting in sports and physical activities to encourage engagement.
Monitoring and recording student progress, ensuring all safeguarding protocols are followed.
Acting as a positive role model and mentor to help students build self-esteem.
