Are you a dedicated SEND educator passionate about empowering secondary-aged learners with complex needs?
Do you excel at tailoring creative, communication-rich curricula for non-verbal pupils to foster real independence?
Are you seeking a rewarding, full-time role within a brand-new independent specialist school with small classes and a truly collaborative ethos?
We are delighted to be recruiting a committed and inspiring KS3/KS4 SEND Teacher on a full-time basis, starting Monday 2nd November 2026, on behalf of an exceptional independent specialist school. This opportunity is offered with a temp-to-perm option, providing an ideal pathway to establish yourself within a thriving new provision and secure a permanent post.
About the School
The school is a newly opened independent specialist setting that launched in September, designed purposefully to support children and young people with special educational needs. Organised carefully by Key Stages, it currently operates with just three to four small classes and is comfortably below capacity. This setting guarantees exceptionally low pupil-to-staff ratios, giving educators the time, space, and specialist resources needed to deliver bespoke learning and pastoral care in a supportive, low-arousal environment.
The Role & Key Responsibilities
- Delivering an adaptable, highly personalised KS3/KS4 curriculum geared towards life skills, engagement, and sensory learning, aligned with pupils' EHCP outcomes.
- Championing communication strategies for non-verbal learners utilising visual aids, assistive technology, AAC systems, Makaton, or objects of reference.
- Managing and providing compassionate support with personal care routines, ensuring dignity, comfort, and pupil well-being remain paramount.
- Directing, mentoring, and working closely with a dedicated team of classroom support assistants to ensure seamless daily support.
- Promoting independence, emotional regulation, and positive behaviour through calm, restorative approaches and sensory integration techniques.
- Collaborating with multi-disciplinary professionals, therapists, and families to track, celebrate, and support individual pupil milestones.
Skills & Qualifications
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or recognised specialist teaching qualification with proven experience teaching secondary-aged pupils (KS3/KS4) with complex SEND.
- Practical expertise or a sound understanding of supporting non-verbal learners and attending to personal care needs with dignity.
- Strong knowledge of modified secondary curricula, life skills programmes, and functional progress frameworks.
- An empathetic, patient, and proactive approach with strong de-escalation and emotional regulation skills.
- Proven ability to lead a classroom team of teaching assistants effectively.
- A steadfast commitment to safeguarding, pupil welfare, and promoting an inclusive school culture.
