Pay Rate: £30-35 per hour

Our client, a global leader in the Industrial Power Systems sector, is seeking an experienced Design Engineer to join their Base Engine Team in Peterborough. This is a high-impact role focused on "clean-sheet" design work, developing brand-new products and innovative green energy solutions for new markets.
Your Role
You will be responsible for designing and packaging complex engine components from the ground up. This role involves taking ownership of challenging requirements within New Product Introduction (NPI) projects, ensuring all designs meet functional, durability, and manufacturing standards.
Key Responsibilities
Design & Packaging: Create complex geometry for engine components including major castings (aluminum and cast iron), geartrains, valvetrains, and in-cylinder components.
System Integration: Contribute to the development of cooling, lubrication, and breather systems.
Risk Mitigation: Conduct FMEAs to identify design risks and establish validation requirements.
Supplier Collaboration: Work closely with global manufacturing sites and external suppliers using APQP methodologies.
Technical Documentation: Generate high-quality drawings and data in CREO to support prototype and volume production releases.
Candidate Requirements
Technical Skills:
CAD Expertise: Expert-level proficiency in CREO (CREO 10 preferred) with at least 6 years of design experience.
Engine Knowledge: A deep understanding of Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) operation and subsystems.
Manufacturing: Solid grasp of casting and machining processes for complex components.
Data Management: Familiarity with TeamCentre or similar PLM software.
Soft Skills:
Self-motivated with the ability to lead sub-project deliverables.
Strong communication skills for technical writing and team presentations.
A collaborative mindset for working within a multi-disciplined global team.
Education & Experience:
A degree or HNC in Mechanical or Automotive Engineering (or equivalent experience).
3 to 5 years of experience specifically within diesel, off-highway, or aerospace industries.
