Are you an expert crisis-handler who thrives when the pressure is on? Do you excel at making definitive, autonomous safeguarding decisions when standard daytime services have closed their doors?
Wakefield Council is seeking a highly skilled Enhanced Senior Social Worker to join their out-of-hours Emergency Duty Team (EDT). Operating from District Headquarters in Normanton, this part-time role places you at the very frontline of emergency response, safeguarding vulnerable children, adults, and families across the district.
The Shift Pattern & Rota
This is an 18.5-hour part-time position working on a rota basis. Because crisis work doesn't keep office hours, EDT coverage spans evenings, weekends, and bank holidays:
Twilight/Evening Shifts: 16:00 - 00:00 (Monday to Sunday)
Weekend/Bank Holiday Day Shifts: 09:00 - 17:00
On-Call Coverage: Participation in overnight on-call duties between 00:00 and 08:30 as required by the rota.
Key Responsibilities
As an Enhanced Senior practitioner on the night-watch, you will be expected to hit the ground running, managing unpredictable and high-stakes situations independently:
Crisis Management: Handle urgent incoming emergency referrals, stabilize volatile situations, and implement immediate safety plans until daytime services resume.
Triage & Inbox Management: Actively monitor and respond to Social Care emergency inboxes.
Community Intervention: Undertake planned, urgent out-of-hours visits on behalf of localized day teams.
Robust Risk Assessment: Complete high-quality, comprehensive risk evaluations across both children's and adults' frameworks to make definitive safeguarding decisions.
What You'll Need to Apply
This is a senior, office-based role that requires a confident professional who can remain calm and compassionate in challenging circumstances.
Experience: A minimum of 3 years' post-qualifying experience, with a strong preference for candidates coming directly from EDT or MASH environments.
Skills: Exceptional crisis-management, communication, and autonomous decision-making capabilities.
Credentials: A recognized Social Work qualification and active registration with Social Work England.
Flexibility: Absolute willingness to work the varied evening, weekend, and overnight on-call hours required by the EDT rota.
Why Take This Role?
Premium Pay: A competitive rate of £35.00 per hour.
Work-Life Balance: An 18.5-hour part-time contract allows you to maintain your practice edge while freeing up your week.
Centralized Hub: Work alongside a dedicated out-of-hours team out of the secure, well-equipped Wakefield District Headquarters in Normanton.
