The Role
We are looking for highly skilled Shuttering Carpenters (Formwork Carpenters) to join a major civil engineering project in the West Midlands. You will be responsible for creating the "moulds" that define the region's new infrastructure, working on everything from bridge abutments and retaining walls to large-scale RC frames and culverts.
This role requires more than just basic joinery; we need professionals who understand the immense pressure of wet concrete and can work to the tight tolerances required in heavy civils.
Key Responsibilities
Formwork Systems: Erecting and striking various systems, including traditional timber shutters, Peri, Doka, and Skydeck.
Blueprint Reading: Interpreting complex structural drawings and ensuring line, level, and plumb are spot on.
Box-outs & Embeds: Accurately installing bolt boxes, plates, and sleeve out-sets for follow-on trades.
Collaboration: Working seamlessly with Steel Fixers and the concrete gang to ensure the structural integrity of every pour.
Safety: Maintaining a clean and safe workspace, particularly when working at height or within excavations.
Requirements
CSCS Card: Valid Blue (Skilled Worker) card in Formwork/Carpentry is essential.
Experience: Minimum 3-5 years specifically within civil engineering or heavy industrial sectors.
Tools: Must have a full kit of carpentry tools (both hand and cordless power tools).
Technical Skill: Proficient in both traditional "stick-build" timber shuttering and proprietary system formwork.
Safety Critical: Must be aware of edge protection requirements and temporary works procedures.
What's in it for you?
Project Longevity: Initial 12-month contracts with the potential for extension across the framework.
Regionally Significant Work: Be a part of the team building the future of West Midlands transport and infrastructure.
Pay: Weekly CIS payments with overtime available during busy pour schedules.
