Trafford Council is seeking 7 dedicated, full-time Social Workers to join our Support and Protection service across Altrincham, Stretford, and Sale.
Support and Protection is a specialized service area that works with children when risks have escalated to Child Protection or when Care Proceedings have been initiated. We focus on longer-term, complex work with families and young people. Working closely in partnership with families and multi-agency partners, our primary goal is to deliver sustainable interventions that protect children and enable them to remain living safely within their families wherever possible.
Why Join Trafford Council?
- Manageable Caseloads: We actively limit caseloads to an average of 20 children per Social Worker, allowing you the time to do meaningful, direct work.
- Competitive Financial Package: Excellent basic pay with a £2,400 per annum market factor supplement for Band 8 (Level 3) practitioners.
- Professional Subscriptions Paid: Full reimbursement of your annual Social Work England registration costs.
- Staff Parking Scheme: Access to an affordable salary-sacrifice car parking scheme at just £28.50 per month.
Key Responsibilities
- Hold and manage a complex caseload of children subject to Child Protection plans or Care Proceedings.

- Build strong, therapeutic relationships with children, young people, and their families to bring about positive, sustainable change.
- Collaborate effectively with multi-agency partners (health, education, police) to deliver integrated support plans.
- Drive child-centered practice to achieve safe outcomes and placement stability.
Requirements
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years post-qualifying experience in children's social care (specifically Child Protection, Court Work, or Safeguarding).
