Role: Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistant

About the Role
We are recruiting a compassionate, resilient SEN Teaching Assistant on behalf of a dedicated specialist school supporting pupils with complex needs, including Autistic Spectrum Condition, Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) challenges. You will work 1:1 and in small groups to remove barriers to learning and foster a safe, predictable environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver 1:1 and small-group support aligned with pupils' Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs).
- Use alternative communication tools (e.g., PECS, Makaton) and de-escalation techniques to support daily engagement.
- Assist with sensory processing routines and personal care support where necessary.
- Collaborate with class teachers, SENCos, and external therapists to track pupil development.
- Maintain positive behavior management strategies in line with the school's policy.
Requirements
- Demonstrable experience supporting children or young adults with SEN (school, care, or support setting). (desirable)
- A patient, adaptable approach with strong crisis-de-escalation skills.
- Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant qualification or relevant care/SEN certifications (desirable).
- Strong basic literacy and numeracy skills.
- An enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for one).
