We are seeking a compassionate Primary Teaching Assistant for a long-term contract starting in September 2026 at an engaging primary school in St Albans. Supporting children across EYFS, KS1, and KS2, this opportunity is ideal for anyone dedicated to boosting student self-esteem, leading small group activities, and nurturing an inclusive environment.
Core Responsibilities
- Teacher Support: Assist lead educators with setting up activities, organising resources, and preserving an orderly, safe classroom atmosphere.
- Targeted Small Groups: Lead small group sessions focusing on guided reading, early writing skills, and fundamental maths concepts.
- One-to-One Support: Deliver individual guidance to children who require extra academic help or have Special Educational Needs (SEND).
- Positive Behaviour Management: Encourage positive pupil behaviour to maintain classroom focus, engagement, and enthusiasm.
- Resource Management: Help create vibrant display boards and organise interactive learning materials for weekly lessons.
- Student Welfare & Safety: Maintain strict safeguarding standards across classroom environments, break times, and school grounds.
Candidate Requirements
- Relevant Background: Prior experience supporting children in a primary school, early years facility, or youth setting (Level 2/3 TA qualification preferred).
- Essential Attributes: Excellent communication skills, adaptable nature, patience, and a strong understanding of primary literacy and numeracy.
- Hands-on Approach: An encouraging, proactive attitude with a commitment to working as a cohesive team alongside teaching staff.
- Compliance Checks: Holds an Enhanced Child DBS registered on the Update Service (or readiness to complete a new application via Randstad).
