Join a Bold, Ambitious, and Supportive Specialist Team
Knowsley Council is on a bold journey. Backed by strong leadership, clear ambition, and significant investment, we are redefining what great practice looks like in children's services. We are looking for experienced and passionate Children's Social Workers to join our friendly, high-performing Children with Disabilities Team.
Our specialist service assesses and supports disabled children and young people up to the age of 18, delivering advice, guidance, and bespoke care packages designed to help families achieve the best possible outcomes.
Why Work with Knowsley Council?
- Unrivalled Leadership Support: Our unique management structure features two dedicated Team Managers within the service, ensuring small team sizes, lower caseloads, and regular, high-quality reflective supervision.
- Specialist Experience Not Essential: While previous experience with disabled children is desirable, it is by no means required. We welcome practitioners from all statutory children's backgrounds who are curious, eager to learn, and dedicated to continuous professional development.
- True Hybrid Working: Enjoy a balanced work life with a structured arrangement of 3 days based at Nutgrove Villa, Huyton, and 2 days working remotely per week.
- Collaborative Culture: Work alongside a close-knit multi-disciplinary team-including fellow Social Workers, Managers, a Finance Officer, and a Family Support Worker-all committed to mutual support and service excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Hold and effectively manage a varied statutory caseload of disabled children, young people, and their families.
- Complete high-quality assessments of need, co-produce intervention plans, and manage complex family situations.
- Deliver relationship-based, strengths-based practice that puts the child's voice at the centre of all decision-making.
- Collaborate closely with health, education, and social care colleagues to build robust support packages.
Candidate Requirements
- Qualification: Recognised Social Work degree (or equivalent).
- Registration: Active registration with Social Work England.
- Experience: Proven experience managing a caseload within a statutory children's services setting, including direct work with children and young people.
- Practice Approach: A strong commitment to relationship-based and strengths-based social work methods.
- Safeguarding: Suitability to undergo an Enhanced DBS check.
