Are you an experienced Children's Social Worker looking for a high-paying, well-structured locum assignment in Greater Manchester?
Wigan Council is recruiting a dedicated Children's Social Worker to join their Duty & Assessment / Locality service. Offering an attractive pay rate of £38.00 per hour, this role is based within one of five duty teams, offering a manageable, predictable 1-in-5 week duty rota alongside flexible hybrid practice.
Key Responsibilities:
- Statutory Assessments & Intervention: Undertake high-quality statutory assessments, Section 47 child protection enquiries, and risk-managed care planning in line with current legislation and local authority procedures.
- Caseload Management: Hold and progress a statutory caseload of children and young people, ensuring risks are accurately identified, analysed, and mitigated.
- Child-Centred Safeguarding: Uphold the principle that the child's welfare remains paramount in all decision-making, care planning, and multi-agency interventions.
- Structured Duty Rota: Serve as part of a dedicated team, being 'on duty' for 1 week out of every 5 weeks to manage incoming assessments, triage, and urgent safeguarding interventions.
What We Are Looking For:
- Qualifications & SWE: Recognised Social Work qualification with active Social Work England (SWE) registration.
- Statutory Experience: Proven post-qualifying experience within statutory Children's Social Care (Duty & Assessment, Front Door, or Safeguarding/Locality teams).
- Risk Management & Analytical Skills: Demonstrable ability to conduct thorough risk assessments, articulate threshold decisions, and lead multi-agency core groups.
- Mobility: Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for community visits across the Wigan borough.
