Hours: Full-time, regular hours with requirement for on-call rota, weekend rotation (1 day per month with time in lieu), and out-of-hours coverage

Role Overview
As an Estates Technician (Electrical), you will play a critical role in maintaining the safety, reliability, and continuous operation of complex engineering services and building infrastructure across clinical and non-clinical facilities.
Working as part of a highly skilled estates team, you will use your specialist electrical knowledge and practical technical expertise to carry out maintenance, repairs, fault diagnosis, and installation work across a wide variety of plant and equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Technical Maintenance & Fault Diagnosis: Perform complex fault diagnosis, preventative maintenance, repairs, and M&E installation work across low-voltage (LV) electrical distribution systems, power, lighting, generators, UPS/IPS, fire and intruder alarms, nurse call, and BMS systems.
- Specialist Compliance: Carry out testing, monitoring, and servicing on critical estates equipment-including decontamination equipment (sterilisers and washer disinfectors), pressure vessels, and lifting gear.
- Authorised/Competent Person Duties: Act as a Competent Person (CP) or Authorised Person (AP) for key technical disciplines (including HTM 06 / LV electrical safety standards).
- Contractor & Project Support: Issue Risk Assessments and Permits to Work (PTW), supervise trade staff and external contractors, and assist in planning rolling engineering maintenance programs or shutdowns.
- Operational Duties: Deputise for Estates Team Leaders when required and participate in the out-of-hours/emergency on-call rota.
Key Qualifications & Requirements
Essential:
- Qualifications: Recognized apprenticeship in an electrical trade with a City & Guilds or NVQ Level 3 in an electrical discipline (or equivalent), plus Electrical AM1 & AM2.
- Experience: Proven experience in an engineering/building maintenance environment, with a strong background in electrical fault finding and minor mechanical/building repairs.
- Technical Skills: Ability to read and interpret complex technical drawings, work with minimal supervision, and manage digital test data (spreadsheets/databases).
- Flexibility: Willingness to participate in an on-call rota, work out-of-hours/weekends as required, and travel across local operational sites.
Desirable:
- Current Competent Person (CP) certification in LV systems, HTM 06, medical gases, or decontamination equipment.
- BTEC / ONC / HNC in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
- Previous experience within an acute hospital or complex healthcare estate environment.
- Familiarity with Health Technical Memoranda (HTM 01, HTM 03, HTM 06).
