The Opportunity
Are you a resilient and compassionate educator looking for a truly rewarding challenge? We are seeking an experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) with a strong background in PMLD (Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties) and SLD (Severe Learning Difficulties) to join our dedicated team. This is a unique opportunity to provide vital educational support to children and young people within a hospital setting.
You will join a small, friendly, and highly supportive team of Teachers and HLTAs, working together to ensure that illness doesn't stand in the way of a child's right to learn.
Key Responsibilities
Specialised 1-1 Support: Deliver high-quality educational support 1-1 by the bedside or within our classroom setting for students with varying SEND and complex medical needs.
Creative Lesson Delivery: Plan and deliver engaging lessons. While resources are available, you will use your initiative and creativity to adapt and personalise them to meet the specific needs of each pupil.
Holistic Care: Support pupils who are unwell, vulnerable, or facing challenging circumstances with empathy and patience.
Collaboration: Work closely with the wider teaching team and medical staff to ensure continuity of care and high educational standards.
Adaptability: Maintain a flexible and resilient approach to teaching in a fast-paced and ever-changing hospital environment.
Candidate Requirements
Experience: Proven experience as an HLTA, ideally within a special school or SEND setting.
Specialist Knowledge: Strong background in PMLD/SLD is essential.
Personal Attributes: You must be compassionate, resilient, and able to work independently using your own initiative.
Communication: Excellent communication skills to liaise effectively between educational and medical professionals.
Trial Day
Suitable candidates will be invited to attend a trial day. This provides a valuable opportunity to shadow our current staff, understand the day-to-day expectations, and meet the inspiring children you will be supporting within the hospital environment.
