Durham County Council is seeking a skilled Independent Reviewing Officer (IRO) to join our Children's Social Care team. This is a crucial role, ensuring that the care plans for looked-after children and young people are robust, child-focused, and regularly reviewed.
We offer a great hourly rate of £35.45, recognizing your vital contribution to the lives of our children.
Roles and Responsibilities
As an IRO, you will be the independent voice ensuring that the needs of looked-after children are met. Your key responsibilities will include:
Chairing statutory reviews for children in care, including Looked After Children (LAC) reviews.
Providing independent scrutiny of care plans, ensuring they are a true reflection of the child's needs and wishes.
Listening to and representing the voice of the child, ensuring they are at the center of all decision-making.
Challenging social workers and managers when care plans are not progressing effectively or in the child's best interests.
Monitoring the Local Authority's performance and highlighting any areas of concern to senior management.
Working collaboratively with all professionals involved in the child's life to promote positive outcomes.
Recording and disseminating review minutes and actions accurately and promptly.
Key Requirements
To be successful in this vital role, you must meet the following criteria:
You must be a qualified Social Worker.
You hold a current and valid registration with Social Work England.
You have an updated enhanced DBS check.
You possess significant post-qualifying experience in children's social work.
You have a comprehensive knowledge of the Children Act 1989 and relevant regulations and guidance.
You are an excellent communicator with strong negotiation and conflict-resolution skills.
You have a proven ability to work independently and make balanced, evidence-based decisions.
