Are you a versatile, dedicated individual with a talent for boosting academic progress and a passion for special educational needs? We are seeking a Key Stage 2 Teaching Assistant to join a mainstream primary school team in Liverpool this September.
This unique, full-time role offers the perfect balance of academic intervention and dedicated SEN support. You will spend your mornings supporting the wider class with core subjects, focusing on English and Maths, and your afternoons providing vital 1:1 support for a child with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)-ensuring they feel safe, understood, and included.
Key Responsibilities
You will play a pivotal role in boosting academic attainment in the morning and delivering tailored SEN care in the afternoon:
Academic English & Maths Support: Assist the class teacher during morning core subjects, working with small groups or individual pupils to break down complex concepts and raise attainment.
1:1 Afternoon ASC Support: Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a child with ASC in the afternoons, implementing tailored autism-friendly strategies, visual schedules, and sensory breaks.
Inclusion & Wellbeing: Foster a positive, inclusive atmosphere that promotes self-esteem and independence, helping the pupil with ASC engage socially and academically with their peers.
Behaviour & Regulation Management: Promote positive behavior using established school policies, dealing promptly with emotional regulation and communication needs using a patient, relationship-based approach.
Progress Tracking: Collaborate with the Class Teacher and SENDco to monitor, record, and report on pupil milestone achievements in core subjects and afternoon progress.
Care & Safety: Maintain a vigilant focus on pupil safety, supporting the student with transition times, routine changes, and classroom management.
Requirements & Experience
We are looking for a patient, adaptable, and academically proficient professional who possesses:
Experience: A minimum of 6 months of experience working in UK primary schools (Key Stage 2 experience and specific ASC/Autism experience is highly preferred).
Core Skills: Strong competency in English and Maths to effectively support the KS2 curriculum.
Compliance: An Enhanced DBS check on the update service (or willingness to apply for one) and eligibility to work in the UK.
Communication: Exceptional interpersonal skills to interact effectively with young pupils, staff, and parents/carers.
Attitude: A genuine passion for inclusion, an adaptable mindset for a split-responsibility role, and a commitment to long-term, full-time work.
